New Delhi, August 1: Heavy rains in Delhi led to tragic incidents and significant disruptions on Wednesday.

Mother and Son Drown in Ghazipur

In the Ghazipur area of East Delhi, a 22-year-old woman named Tanuja and her three-year-old son Priyansh drowned in a waterlogged drain. They were residents of Prakash Nagar Khoda Colony in Ghaziabad. The incident occurred when they were returning from the market and fell into the drain due to waterlogging. The drain is approximately 15 feet deep and 6 feet wide.

Boy Electrocuted in Bindapur

In another incident, a 12-year-old boy in Bindapur died from electrocution. He came into contact with a live cable while walking near a wall. The boy lived with his family in Bindapur, and his body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

Citywide Disruptions

Heavy rainfall caused waterlogging in various parts of Delhi, including ITO. Rainwater entered the Institute of Town Planners, India, requiring pumping out. Traffic congestion and jams were reported on Patparganj Road, Ganesh Nagar, Railway Under Bridge, Ram Bagh Road, Azad Market, and Veer Banda Bairagi Marg. The Delhi Traffic Police imposed diversions on New Patparganj Road towards Laxmi Nagar and from Nirman Vihar towards Police Station Preet Vihar Road.
