Heavy Rains Disrupt Flights and Cause Waterlogging in Mumbai
Heavy rains have hit Mumbai and its suburbs, causing significant disruptions. Many flights have been canceled or diverted, and Air India is offering full refunds or one-time complimentary rescheduling for affected passengers. The airline advises checking flight status before heading to the airport.
Earlier, Air India warned passengers about potential delays due to slow traffic and waterlogging. The Andheri Subway has been closed for vehicles because of waterlogging, and public transport services have been disrupted, causing inconvenience to commuters.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs, with very heavy rainfall expected in isolated areas. Gusty winds of 50-60 kmph are also likely. Due to heavy rains, reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai are overflowing, leading to the withdrawal of a 10% water cut starting July 29.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Maharashtra, predicting extremely heavy rainfall. An orange alert has been issued for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in the Konkan region, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 26 to July 27.
