Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions in Delhi
New Delhi experienced heavy rains and thunderstorms on Friday, providing relief from the humid weather. However, the sudden rainfall caused waterlogging and heavy traffic disruptions across the city.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more showers in the next two hours in Delhi and the NCR region. Areas like Burari, Model Town, Karawal Nagar, and Patel Nagar have been experiencing light to moderate rainfall with light thunderstorms and lightning since morning.

Light rainfall was also reported in Narela, Alipur, Badili, Pitampura, Punjabi Bagh, Seelampur, Shahadra, Vivek Vihar, Red Fort, President House, Rajeev Chauk, ITO, India Gate, Lodi Road, R K Puram, Defence Colony, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, and IGNOU.
Traffic Disruptions
The IMD warned of localized flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and traffic disruptions. The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory about traffic disruption on Syama Prasad Mukherjee Marg due to waterlogging at Chatta Rail Chowk. Diversion points were indicated at Chatta Rail Red Light and Lothian Road, with alternative routes suggested for commuters.
Commuters from NS Marg towards ISBT Kashmiri Gate were advised to take a left turn from Chatta Rail Red Light and travel along Kodia Pul–ODRS Pul Mithai–Mori Gate Boulevard Road to reach ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Those coming from ISBT towards NS Marg were advised to follow the route of ISBT Kashmiri Gate Boulevard Road–Mori Gate–Pul Duffrin ODRS Kodia Pul–NS Marg. Additionally, commuters from Rajouri Garden towards Brar Square were advised to choose an alternative route due to an overturned HGV at Naraina Flyover affecting traffic on Ring Road.

In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded at Delhi University with 89.5 mm, followed by IGNOU at 34.5 mm, Pitampura, Narayana, and Pushpa Vihar at 8.5 mm, and Pragati Maidan at 6.5 mm.
