Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging and Tragic Incidents in Delhi
Heavy rains in Delhi have led to severe waterlogging and traffic restrictions. The Delhi Traffic Police announced that movement at Okhla Underpass is restricted due to waterlogging. On Saturday, a 60-year-old man drowned at the Okhla Underpass, which was submerged following heavy rain on Friday.
Additionally, two boys died near the rainwater-flooded Siraspur underpass in northwest Delhi’s Samaypur Badli area. The Delhi Police received a call about the drowning of a 12-year-old boy at 2:25 PM on Saturday. The underpass was flooded with almost 2.5-3 feet of water. Earlier, two children aged 8 and 10 drowned in a deep rainwater ditch in the New Usmanpur area.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist Soma Sen stated that heavy rainfall is expected in Delhi over the next two days. An orange alert has been issued for UP, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and East Rajasthan. Warnings have also been issued for Arunachal Pradesh and Assam for extremely heavy rainfall.
Despite the heavy rains, the Delhi Metro saw a significant increase in passenger journeys. On June 28, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) reported over 69 lakh passenger journeys, with services operating without disruption and a punctuality rate of 99.95 percent.
