Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging and Flight Disruptions in Bengaluru

On Monday night, Bengaluru experienced heavy rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging in various parts of the city. The Belanduru Traffic Police reported slow-moving traffic on the outer ring road at Ecospace junction towards Devarabesanahalli to Bellandur junction, as well as on Sarjapura road at Wipro junction and RBD layout junction.

The situation has sparked criticism from opposition parties towards the Congress-led government. The Janata Dal Secular took to social media to mock the government’s handling of the city’s infrastructure, likening Bengaluru to a “mini Venice.” The Leader of Opposition also questioned Deputy CM DK Shivakumar’s commitment to his role as Bengaluru Development Minister.

In addition to traffic issues, the heavy rains caused disruptions at Kempegowda International Airport. Over 20 flights were delayed, and 4 flights, including one from Thai Lion Air, were diverted to Chennai.

As a precaution, the District Collector announced a holiday for Anganwadis and schools in Bengaluru City, though higher education institutions remained open. The India Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in the coming days.
