Weather Forecast and Warnings

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall in Chennai and Thiruvallur districts until 10:00 am. Light rains and thunderstorms are also expected in Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts. The rains may cause slippery roads and minor damage due to unsecured structures.

Government Response

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin surveyed the Narayanapuram lake banks and Ambedkar road canals. He checked the readiness of the area to handle heavy rainfall and met with locals to address their concerns. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin held a review meeting with officials to ensure necessary measures are in place.

Precautionary Measures

Residents in Velachery parked their cars on the flyover to avoid damage. An advisory was issued to fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea. IT employees in affected districts have been advised to work from home from October 15 to 18.
