Unprecedented Rainfall in Khammam

Khammam district in Telangana has been hit by heavy rains over the past few days, causing severe floods. District Collector Muzammil Khan described the situation as ‘unprecedented’ and noted that such floods have not been seen in the region for the last 30 years.

Efforts to Save Lives

Muzammil Khan praised the efforts of officials, public representatives, and others who have worked tirelessly over the past two days. ‘We could save many lives because of this,’ he said. The district is now focusing on setting up rehabilitation centers, health camps, and ensuring the availability of food grains, especially for the elderly and handicapped.

Rising Water Levels

The heavy rains have caused the water level of the Munneru River to rise, leading to flooding in residential areas like Prakash Nagar in Khammam. Visuals show water breaching the banks and submerging homes.

Chief Minister’s Response

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will inspect the flood-affected areas in Khammam. He held a meeting at the Integrated Command Control Centre in Hyderabad to discuss flood relief measures. In a post on X, the CM shared details of the orders given to officials for relief and rescue operations.

Financial Assistance and Emergency Measures

The CM has ordered the setup of a call center linked with the command control center and training police battalions on the NDRF model for emergency services. He also announced financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh to the families of those who died due to floods and increased compensation for cattle, goats, and sheep that perished. Additionally, Rs. 5 crore has been allocated for immediate assistance to the collectors of the affected districts, including Khammam, Bhadradri Kota Gudem, Mahbubabad, and Suryapet.
