New Delhi, June 28 – A portion of the canopy at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed early Friday morning due to heavy rains, resulting in one death and several injuries. Rescue operations are ongoing, and flights from Terminal 1 are canceled until 2 pm.

Details of the Incident

According to ADO Ravinder, the shed collapse trapped eight people. The injured were taken to Medanta Hospital, but one person was found dead. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed that flights from Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 are fully operational, while Terminal 1 departures are canceled until 2 pm.

Rescue and Monitoring

Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, is personally monitoring the incident. He stated that first responders are working on-site and advised airlines to assist affected passengers. Three fire engines were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call at 5:30 am.

Impact of Heavy Rains

The heavy rains have also caused significant waterlogging in various parts of Delhi-NCR, including Govindpuri and Noida Sector 95. The India Meteorological Department forecasts more rain and gusty winds for the next seven days.
