Heavy Rains Cause Railway Track Damage in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh CM Inspects Floods

Heavy rains in Telangana caused significant damage to a railway track near Intakanne, leading to cancellations and diversions of several long-distance trains. Restoration work is ongoing and expected to be completed by tomorrow evening, according to officials.

Restoration Efforts

The South Central Railways, Secundrabad Division, Chief Project Manager Subramaniam reported six main breaches on the track, with major breaches being around 50-70 meters. He stated, “We are attending the breach at kilometre 418. The breach is set mainly at 418, 432 and 433 km. At 418 km, out of six breaches we have attained five main breaches. The main breach we are attending right now is a major breach and the length is around 70 meters. It can take some time…We are attending the kilometre 433 main breach now which is around 50 meters in length. So these two are the main breaches. We are attending these 2 main breaches right now.”

The South Central Railway General Manager, Arun Kumar Jain, also visited the sites and said, “We have cancelled several long-distance trains and some trains have been diverted. I know that people get inconvenienced with train cancellations, but if the train gets stuck in the middle then that would be even more of an inconvenience. Train cancellations and diversion is important for the safety of the people.” He added that train operations are expected to resume by tomorrow evening.

Flood Situation in Andhra Pradesh

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu inspected the flood situation in Vijayawada, where severe waterlogging has been witnessed due to heavy rainfall. He stated, “We are streamlining the system. 110 boats are currently working to supply food and provide medical assistance. I am regularly monitoring the flood situation and officials are actively working on the ground. Since last night, I have visited many flood-affected areas. The public should not panic. We are setting up command and control centres in the flood-affected regions.”

The IMD has issued a weather warning for the next five days, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning for Sunday. For the following four days, isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning.
