Heavy Rains Cause Landslides in Joshimath, Blocking Badrinath Highway

Heavy rains in Uttarakhand have led to landslides, causing significant disruptions on the Badrinath National Highway in Joshimath. According to Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana, debris from the hills has blocked the road, halting vehicular movement. However, pedestrian access has been restored.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and district administration teams are working to clear the road for vehicles. Similar incidents were reported on July 5, when debris blocked the highway at two locations in Chamoli district, causing temporary traffic disruptions. Local authorities and police managed to clear the debris and resume traffic within a few hours.

Efforts to Clear the Highway

The ongoing efforts to clear the highway are crucial for ensuring safe travel for pilgrims and residents. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary actions to prevent further disruptions.
