Heavy Rains Cause Flooding in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and More Rain Expected in Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Konkan Goa

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the monsoon is shifting downward, bringing heavy rains to coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Konkan Goa. These areas are expected to receive more than 20 cm of rain in the coming days, prompting a red alert.

IMD scientist Dr. Naresh Kumar stated, “The monsoon is shifting downward from today. We are issuing a red alert for coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Konkan Goa for the coming days. There may be more than 20 cm of rain there. Delhi-NCR will receive light rain in the coming days. There is no alert for Delhi.”

Many states in India have been experiencing heavy rains, leading to flooding and damage. In Maharashtra, the Kamwari River in the Bhiwandi area of Thane overflowed, causing water to enter homes and displacing residents. Locals reported that no officials from the Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation have addressed the flood situation.

In Gujarat, heavy rains increased the water level in the Madhuban Dam, flooding low-lying areas and the national highway in Valsad district. Disaster Management Officer Naseem Sheikh mentioned that teams were deployed to drain the water.

Delhi and Noida also saw rain, resulting in waterlogging and traffic snarls. The rain provided some relief from the July heat, but visuals showed vehicles moving slowly through waterlogged roads.
