Heavy Rains Cause Flooding and Disruptions in Mumbai and Nearby Areas

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg for Monday. A red alert is also in place for Pune and Satara. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rainfall in Mumbai until July 12.

IMD Director Sunil Kamble reported that Mumbai recorded around 270 mm of rainfall between 2 am and 6 am on Monday. An orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for the next 24 hours, and a yellow alert for heavy rain is in place for tomorrow.

Ram Karan Yadav, General Manager of Central Railway, stated that more than 300 mm of rain fell in six hours, causing waterlogging and disrupting train services. He advised people to stay home unless necessary.

Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were also affected. Schools were closed, and exams were canceled due to the heavy rains. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported significant rainfall in Colaba and Santacruz, leading to waterlogging in several areas.

Mumbai city received a total of 2547 mm of rainfall, which is 27 percent of the average annual rain during the same period. Waterlogging was reported in Worli, Buntara Bhavan, Kurla East, King’s Circle, Dadar, and Vidyavihar Railway Station.
