Heavy Rainfall Predicted in Karnataka: Dr N Puviarasan’s Weather Update

Heavy Rainfall Predicted in Karnataka

Weather Update by Dr N Puviarasan

As parts of South India, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, experience continuous rainfall, Dr N Puviarasan, the Head of the Meteorology Department in Karnataka, has forecasted more rain for the next three days. This is due to a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and an upper-level trough extending to the south coast of Karnataka.

Dr Puviarasan stated, “Due to the well-marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal and the upper-level trough extending to the south coast of Karnataka, we are experiencing northeast monsoon rainfall. The low pressure is expected to move inland soon, resulting in rain for the next three days. Heavy rainfall is expected today, with very heavy rainfall predicted for coastal and South interior Karnataka tomorrow.”

Precautionary Measures

In response to the heavy rain forecasts, high alerts have been issued in several areas. The Bengaluru District Collector has declared a holiday for Anganwadi, primary, and high schools tomorrow due to the warning from the Meteorological Department.

IMD’s Weather Advisory

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) tweeted about the well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. It is expected to move west-northwestwards, intensifying into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal within the next 12 hours. The depression is likely to approach the north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by the early morning of October 17th.
