Telangana has experienced heavy rainfall over the past two days, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting moderate rainfall for Tuesday. Dr. A. Sravani, an IMD scientist, reported that the region has seen 35% excess rainfall. The low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has caused significant flooding in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh received 27 cm of rainfall, leading to widespread flooding. In Telangana, Mahabubabad district recorded 40 cm of rainfall, while Khammam district received 24-27 cm. A total of 25 locations experienced extremely heavy rainfall, 126 received heavy rainfall, and 30 witnessed very heavy rainfall.

Khammam district has been particularly affected, with extensive damage and rescue operations underway. The water level of the Munneru River has risen in Khammam’s Prakash Nagar. Congress MP from Khammam, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, reported that the floods have caused damage to houses and that people have been rescued. Food relief and rehabilitation work are also in progress.

Khammam District Collector Muzammil Khan described the floods as “unprecedented,” noting that such a situation had not been witnessed in the region for the last 30 years. A yellow alert has been issued for Adilabad district.
