Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, October 19: Heavy rains have been affecting various parts of Tamil Nadu, causing disruptions and water-logging in many areas. The city of Chennai experienced significant rainfall, with areas like Kathivakkam and Manali recording 23 cm and 21 cm, respectively. Cholavaram saw 30 cm, Red Hills 28 cm, and Avadi 25 cm of rain.

The weather disturbance, a depression over the Bay of Bengal, moved at 14 km per hour and crossed the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh coasts near Puducherry and Nellore early Thursday morning.

Government Response

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin visited rain-affected areas in Chennai’s Kolathur Assembly Constituency, distributing relief materials. He assured that the government is prepared for any situation, with precautionary measures in place across the state.

DMK leader TKS Elangovan highlighted the quick recession of water, attributing it to the government’s efforts over the past two years. He noted that while heavy rains can cause problems, the current measures have been effective in mitigating the impact.

Elangovan also mentioned that all DMK ministers are actively assessing the flood situation and providing necessary relief to the public.
