Heavy Rainfall Closes Schools in Jaipur, Rajasthan
Due to heavy rainfall, authorities in Rajasthan have announced that all government and non-government schools in Jaipur city and rural areas, from classes 1 to 12, will be closed on Monday, August 12, 2024. This decision was made following instructions from the District Collector of Jaipur.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warnings for several regions in Rajasthan. A red alert has been issued for Sawai Madhopur, Karoli, and Bharatpur, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. An orange alert has been issued for Jaipur City, Alwar, Sikar, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Dhaulpur, Dausa-Srinagar, Bikaner, Tonk, and Hanumangarh, with light to medium rainfall expected along with heavy rainfall at isolated places. A yellow alert has been issued for Kota, Boondi, Nagaur, Bhilwada, Bara, and Chittorgarh, predicting light to medium rainfall.
Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions. The IMD has warned of potential flooding and waterlogging, advising people to avoid seeking shelter under trees, stay away from drains, and not go out unless necessary.
On August 1, three individuals, including a seven-year-old girl, went missing and were feared to have drowned after rainwater flooded the basement of a residence in Jaipur.
