Heavy Rainfall Causes Severe Flooding in Dibrugarh, Assam

Over the past three days, continuous heavy rainfall has led to severe waterlogging in Dibrugarh, Assam, disrupting daily life. Local resident Munna Rai described the situation, saying, “There is water everywhere, and daily work cannot be done. Many places are flooded. Water has even entered the house.”

The flooding has affected many areas, including the CRPF camp, which is also submerged. Another resident mentioned, “In front of the police area, all the roads and paths are flooded. Even the police camp is filled with water. Water has also entered the shops, forcing shopkeepers to close and leave. It’s very difficult here, and there is no electricity in many places. People are facing a lot of trouble.”

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier warned of such conditions. On June 27, the IMD reported that a cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan and another over east Assam would cause widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated heavy rainfall over several regions, including Assam, over the next five days.

The IMD also noted that the southwest monsoon is advancing into more parts of North India, with conditions becoming favorable for further advancement into additional regions over the next two to three days. The IMD predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over various parts of India due to the influence of the cyclonic circulation.
