The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday. This alert is due to a monsoon trough and a cyclonic circulation over Mumbai, which has resulted in strong westerly winds.

Rainfall Data

According to recent data released by IMD, the average rainfall recorded at 8 am in the Central Mumbai region was 93.16 mm, in the Eastern Suburbs it was 66.03 mm, and in the Western Suburbs, it was 78.93 mm.

Impact on Transport

Despite the heavy rain, railway traffic is running smoothly. However, some BEST bus routes at Sion have been diverted via Sion Circle.

Other Regions

The Palghar region of Maharashtra has also been experiencing heavy rain, with an orange alert issued. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Thane and Raigad regions.

The IMD predicts heavy spells of rain at isolated places in Mumbai for the next three to four hours.
