Heavy Rain Hits Thoothukudi and Other Parts of Tamil Nadu

Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu experienced heavy rain on Saturday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, and Kerala on September 29.

Several other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh, also received heavy rainfall from 8:30 a.m. on September 27 to 5:30 a.m. today, according to the IMD.

On September 26, heavy rain hit Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, causing waterlogging, power outages, and traffic jams. Nungambakkam received 7.42 cm of rainfall, and Menambakkam received 7.12 cm of rainfall.

Other areas like Tiruvallur, Vellore, and Cuddalore districts, as well as Puducherry, also experienced downpours on September 25. Valparai in Coimbatore received 8.0 mm of rainfall, Thiruttani in Tiruvallur recorded 5.0 mm, Cuddalore recorded 0.2 mm, Vellore recorded 0.4 mm, and Puducherry recorded 0.3 mm.

The regional meteorological center has forecasted light to moderate rains in north Tamil Nadu till the weekend. Meanwhile, the IMD predicted rain in several districts of Telangana due to a low-pressure area over south Chhattisgarh.

K Nagaratna, Hyderabad IMD Director, mentioned that the low-pressure area over the west-central bay and adjoining areas has become less marked, and its associated cyclonic circulation now lies over south Chhattisgarh and its adjoining areas up to 5.8 km height.
