Heavy Rain Causes Waterlogging and Power Outages in Delhi

Heavy rain hit Delhi early Friday, causing waterlogging and power outages. BSES Yamuna Power Limited faced delays in restoring electricity due to waterlogged areas. A spokesperson said power was cut in some areas to prevent electrocution.

Government Response

Delhi Minister Atishi announced several measures to combat waterlogging. An emergency control room will be formed to monitor waterlogging 24/7. Departments will inspect water pumps and deploy Quick Response Teams to remove water.

Record Rainfall

Delhi received 228 mm of rain in 24 hours, the highest since 1936. This caused drains to overflow, leading to waterlogging. The government identified 200 hotspots prone to waterlogging and is taking steps to address the issue.

Additional Measures

Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said traffic police and area representatives will identify vulnerable areas. The Chief Secretaries will review the list of affected areas to ensure constant monitoring.
