Heavy Rain Causes Wall Collapse in Vasant Vihar and Roof Collapse at Delhi Airport
In New Delhi, heavy rain led to a wall collapse at an under-construction site in Vasant Vihar, trapping three laborers. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has recovered one body, and rescue operations for the other two are ongoing.
An eyewitness reported hearing loud noises and seeing a woman shouting that her husband was trapped in the debris. The police arrived at the scene by 6:30 am.
The heavy rain also caused two trees to fall into the basement pit where temporary huts for laborers were situated. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the fire department are conducting rescue operations.
Additionally, at Indira Gandhi International Airport, a portion of the roof at Terminal 1 collapsed, injuring eight people and killing one. The incident occurred around 5:30 am, damaging four vehicles. The injured were taken to Medanta Hospital, and all are reported to be stable.
The Regional Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for June 29 and 30, predicting heavy rains with thunderstorms.
