Heavy Rain Causes Flooding and Traffic Problems in Jalandhar and Other Parts of Punjab and Haryana
Heavy rain lashed Jalandhar, Punjab, on Sunday, causing flooding in low-lying areas and traffic jams. Rainwater entered houses in these areas, and many streets were waterlogged, making it difficult for people to commute. Vehicles and pedestrians were seen wading through the waterlogged streets.
Traffic was also disrupted due to fallen trees on the roads. Many areas were completely submerged, posing challenges for local administration and emergency services.
Other districts in Punjab, such as Mohali, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Rupnagar, and Ambala, also experienced heavy rain. In Ambala, normal life was disrupted, and many areas were waterlogged, affecting commuters.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain over parts of Kurukshetra, Ambala, Yamunanagar, and Panchkula. The IMD Regional Centre in New Delhi also forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in several parts of Haryana, including Rajaund, Assandh, Jind, Gohana, Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Farukhnagar, as well as parts of Rajasthan like Kotputli, Alwar, and Viratnagar.
According to the IMD, Haryana is expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall until August 14. The IMD also predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana-Chandigarh during specific dates in August.
