Heavy Rain and Landslides Close Roads and Disrupt Utilities in Himachal Pradesh
Amidst heavy rainfall and landslides, around 64 roads were closed in Himachal Pradesh, according to the state government. The rain has also disrupted 34 electricity supply schemes and hampered 44 water supply schemes.
Road Closures
Out of the 64 blocked roads, 55 are in Mandi, seven in Chamba, and one each in Kangra and Shimla. Earlier, 77 roads were closed, with Mandi having the highest number of blockages at 67.
Electricity Disruptions
In Kullu, 33 electricity supply schemes are disrupted due to a major fault in the high-tension lines. Mandi has the highest disruptions with 132 schemes affected.
Water Supply Issues
Out of 44 hampered water supply schemes, 22 are in Bilaspur, 19 in Mandi, and three in Shimla.
Weather Alerts
The weather department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms until Friday, with a yellow warning for the weekend. Recent rainfall measurements include 15 cm in Kataula (Mandi), 11 cm in Pandoh (Mandi), and 8 cm in Sujanpur Tira (Hamirpur).
