Heavy Rain and Cloudbursts Cause Disruptions in Himachal Pradesh
Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, August 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Himachal Pradesh, predicting light to moderate rainfall to continue in the state. The districts of Kangra, Sirmaur, Shimla, Solan, and Mandi are expected to experience rainfall at many places, while Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, Kullu, and Chamba will see rain at a few places with isolated intense spells.
The hill resort Shimla is currently facing heavy rainfall, affecting daily life for residents and visitors. The cloudburst and flash floods on August 1 have severely impacted Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 85 roads, including two National Highways, have been closed due to landslides and excessive rain. Additionally, 116 electricity supply schemes and 65 water supply schemes have been disrupted.
A catastrophic cloudburst occurred in the Lahaul and Spiti districts on August 1. Authorities are urging residents and tourists to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather advisories as the rain continues to lash Shimla and other parts of Himachal Pradesh.
