Haryana Police DGP Shatrujeet Kapur Honored by Amit Shah for Cybercrime Control

On September 10, Haryana Police Director General (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur was awarded by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the state police’s outstanding performance in cybercrime control. The award ceremony took place at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Cyber, Mamta Singh, was also present.

The recognition was given for the efficient management of Cyber Helpline 1930. DGP Kapur congratulated the Cyber Helpline 1930 team and encouraged them to continue their dedicated efforts. He mentioned that the number of personnel on the cyber helpline was increased by three to four times, and strong strategies were developed to counter cybercriminals.

Speaking on Friday, DGP Kapur said, “Cybercrime has emerged as a major challenge across the country. The Haryana Police prioritized this issue by enhancing its cybercrime control systems.” He added that collaborations with banks, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and telecom companies were established to curb cyber fraud and block fraudulent SIM cards.

Awareness campaigns were launched across social media, print, and electronic media to educate the public about cybercrime tactics. The results were significant, with the rate of blocked cyber fraud funds increasing from eight percent in September 2023 to 36 percent in August 2024, the highest in the country. If a complaint is filed within six hours of the fraud, up to 70% of the defrauded amount can be blocked.

Haryana Police, which ranked 25th in blocking cyber fraud amounts in September 2023, now holds the top position in the country. The event also marked the first anniversary of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the launch of several initiatives to prevent cybercrime, attended by senior officers from various states.
