Haryana Government Transfers SP Sumit Kumar Amid Allegations
The Haryana government has transferred Jind Superintendent of Police (SP) Sumit Kumar following allegations of sexual harassment. This decision was made after the Haryana Women’s Commission requested Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to relocate him. According to an official order dated October 30, Sumit Kumar has been reassigned to SP/Railways in Ambala.
In addition to Kumar’s transfer, the government has ordered the transfer of 20 IPS officers and three Haryana Police Services officers. Rajesh Kumar from the Haryana Anti-corruption Bureau has been appointed as the new SP of Jind.
Renu W Bhatia, chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women, confirmed that the Commission discussed the allegations with Sumit Kumar. “Sumit Kumar visited our office, and we heard his side of the matter. He seemed to try to clear himself of the charges. An inquiry is scheduled for November 7,” Bhatia stated.
The Commission has formally requested the Chief Minister to transfer SP Kumar to ensure a fair investigation. A hearing was conducted on October 29, where Sumit Kumar presented his case. The Commission stressed the importance of an unbiased investigation, free from the officer’s influence.
