Haryana Congress Chief Udai Bhan Urges Governor to Dissolve BJP Government

Chandigarh (Haryana) [India] June 21: Haryana Congress has called on Governor Bandaru Dattatreya to dissolve the Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government, alleging it lacks the necessary majority. They are seeking fresh elections in the state.

Congress’s Allegations

Haryana Congress Chief Udai Bhan, after meeting with the Governor, stated, “They (BJP) do not have the full majority, they only have 43 MLAs while they need 44, so they are engaged in horse-trading. To stop the horse-trading, the government should be immediately dismissed and a fresh mandate should be taken.”

Congress Delegation’s Actions

The Congress delegation, led by two-time Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, met the Governor and handed over a memorandum urging the dismissal of the current government and a fresh mandate from the public. Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, “We have demanded the dissolution of the House. This government has no moral right and if they want to prove it (majority) then they should parade their MLAs in front of the Governor. Horse-trading of MLAs should stop. On moral grounds, this government should resign and elections should be held.”

Current Political Scenario

In the 90-member house, the BJP has 41 legislators and the support of one legislator from the Haryana Lokhit Party and one Independent legislator. Recently, prominent Haryana leaders Kiran Choudhry and her daughter Shruti Choudhry left Congress to join the BJP, citing better growth opportunities.

Reactions to Kiran Choudhry’s Exit

Regarding Kiran Choudhry’s exit, Haryana state Congress leader Udai Bhan said, “It was her wish. She said she didn’t see growth in Congress and felt BJP had better growth options, so she went. People keep coming and going from the party. It is a big party. It is not a question of one Kiran Chaudhry; 40-42 have joined also.”

Election Results

In the 2019 Assembly Elections, the BJP secured 40 seats while Congress won 31 seats. The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) won 10 seats. In the 2024 parliamentary elections, Congress won 5 out of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
