Haryana CM Criticizes Delhi Government Over Yamuna Pollution

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has accused Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of misleading the public about the Yamuna River’s pollution. Saini claims that the Delhi government is not taking responsibility for the 28 drains of dirty water flowing into the Yamuna from Delhi to Okhla. He stated that the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) of water supplied by Haryana is low, and questioned the use of Rs 6,000 crores allocated by the Centre under the Yamuna Action Plan.

Delhi Government’s Response

In response, Atishi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of playing “dirty politics,” which she claims is the real cause of pollution in Delhi. She highlighted the reduction of stubble burning in Punjab under AAP’s leadership and criticized the BJP-led governments in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for not doing the same. Atishi also pointed out the pollution caused by diesel buses and brick kilns in the NCR region.

Efforts to Combat Pollution

Atishi assured that the Delhi government is actively working to address pollution issues, including defoaming the Yamuna River. She criticized BJP leaders for their visits to the Yamuna, claiming that industrial waste from Haryana and polluted water from Uttar Pradesh are major contributors to the river’s pollution.
