Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini Announces Special Benefits for Ex-Agniveers

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced a series of benefits for ex-Agniveers. These include a 10% horizontal reservation in direct recruitment for state government jobs such as Constable, Mining Guard, Forest Guard, Jail Warden, and Special Police Officer (SPO).

During a press conference, the Chief Minister also stated that ex-Agniveers will receive a 3-year age relaxation for Group B and C government posts, with the first batch getting a 5-year relaxation. Additionally, if an ex-Agniveer is employed by an industrial unit with a salary exceeding Rs 30,000 per month, the Haryana government will provide a Rs 60,000 annual subsidy to that unit.

The Agnipath scheme, launched on June 15, 2022, recruits young men and women for four years of military service as Agniveers. After four years, up to 25% of each batch may be enrolled in the regular Armed Forces based on organizational needs. The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) also offer a 10% quota for ex-Agniveers in constable-level posts.

There has been debate over the scheme, with some political parties, including Congress, promising to repeal it if they come to power. Haryana will face assembly polls later this year.
