Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini Approves Changes to Sikh Gurdwara Management

The Haryana Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, met in Chandigarh and approved the draft of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Amendment Ordinance, 2024. This ordinance amends the Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Act, 2014.

Key Changes in the Ordinance

According to the new draft:

  • The Chairman of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission can now be a High Court Judge if appointed. If not, a District Judge or one of the three senior members will be chosen.
  • The term for the Chairman or Member is set to five years from the date they assume charge.
  • The previous requirement for the Chairman to be a retired District Judge with at least 10 years of service has been updated.
  • The age cap of 65 years for the Chairman or Member has been removed.
