Haryana Cabinet Approves New Reservation Rules for Scheduled Castes

The Haryana Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, has approved recommendations from the Haryana Scheduled Castes Commission to divide reservations for Scheduled Castes. This decision follows a Supreme Court ruling allowing sub-classification of Scheduled Castes by state governments.

Sub-classification for Equality

The new rules aim to promote equality of opportunity by creating two categories: Deprived Scheduled Castes (DSC) and Other Scheduled Castes (OSC). The DSC includes groups like Balmiki, Chura, and Bhangi, while the OSC includes Chamar, Jatia Chamar, and others.

Reservation Quotas

Within the 20% quota for Scheduled Castes in government jobs, 10% is reserved for DSC and 10% for OSC. If suitable candidates are unavailable in one category, candidates from the other may fill the vacancies. A common merit list will determine inter-seniority.

Regular Updates

The Scheduled Caste list will be regularly updated in line with Central Government notifications to ensure fair representation in government services.
