Haryana Assembly Elections: Voter Turnout and Key Political Figures
On October 5, Haryana witnessed a significant voter turnout of 61% across its 90 assembly seats during the single-phase elections. Mewat led with a turnout of 68.28%, while Gurugram recorded the lowest at 49.97%. Other notable turnouts included Yamunanagar at 67.93% and Palwal at 67.69%.
Voting began at 7 AM and concluded at 6 PM, with 1,031 candidates contesting and 20,632 polling booths set up. The votes will be counted on October 8, alongside those from Jammu and Kashmir.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju praised the work done in Haryana over the past decade under PM Modi’s leadership, dismissing Congress’s promises. Congress leader Bajrang Punia expressed hope for a Congress victory, while Mahavir Singh Phogat commended the BJP’s efforts.
The main parties in the fray include the BJP, Congress, AAP, and alliances like INLD-BSP and JJP-ASP. In the 2019 elections, BJP formed a coalition government with JJP, winning 40 and 10 seats respectively, while Congress secured 31 seats.
