Haryana Assembly Elections: Key Players and Their Perspectives

As voting takes place for the 90 assembly seats in Haryana, Ajay Singh Chautala, the national president of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), emphasized that the people of Haryana will decide the next government. After casting his vote in Sirsa, he stated, “We have done our job. We have taken our party’s agenda to the people of Haryana during campaigning.”

Voting began at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm, with 1,031 candidates contesting across 90 constituencies. A total of 20,632 polling booths have been set up. The election results will be announced on October 8, alongside those of Jammu and Kashmir.

Former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed confidence in his party’s performance, urging people to vote peacefully. He stated, “Congress is going to form its government here.”

The election is a significant contest with the BJP aiming for a third consecutive term, while Congress seeks to regain power amidst issues like farmer and wrestler protests. BJP leaders, including former CM Manohar Lal Khattar, criticized Congress for past corruption and unemployment, claiming increased employment opportunities under BJP rule.

The main parties in the fray include BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and alliances like INLD-BSP and JJP-ASP. In the 2019 elections, BJP won 40 seats, forming a coalition with JJP, which later dissolved. Congress secured 31 seats.
