In Chandigarh, Punjab, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Harvinder Kalyan was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Haryana Assembly. Alongside him, BJP leader Krishan Middha was elected as the Deputy Speaker.

In the recent Haryana legislative assembly elections, the BJP secured an absolute majority by winning 48 out of 90 seats. The Congress won 37 seats, while Independents and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won 3 and 2 seats, respectively.
