Harsimrat Kaur Badal Thanks Golden Temple for Bathinda Win Amid SAD Leadership Rift
Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a leader from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, to express her gratitude for winning the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat for the fourth consecutive time in the 2024 elections. She thanked God, the public, and party workers for their support.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal is part of Punjab’s influential Badal family. She is the daughter-in-law of five-time chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and the wife of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. In the recent elections, she defeated her closest rival, AAP nominee Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, by securing 3.76 lakh votes against Khuddian’s 3.26 lakh votes.
Earlier this week, Harsimrat responded to dissent within the party against her husband, Sukhbir Singh Badal. Some senior SAD leaders, including Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Bidi Jagir Kaur, demanded Sukhbir’s resignation following the party’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections. Despite this, the SAD Working Committee expressed their complete faith in Sukhbir’s leadership and urged detractors not to undermine the party.
The Shiromani Akali Dal posted on the microblogging site X, reaffirming their support for Sukhbir Singh Badal and calling for unity against conspiracies targeting the party, Panth, and Punjab.
