Harsimrat Kaur Badal Criticizes AAP and Comments on Waqf Bill
New Delhi, August 9: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday, calling it the most corrupt party in the country. She made these remarks after Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was granted bail by the Supreme Court of India.
Supreme Court Grants Bail to Manish Sisodia
The Supreme Court granted bail to Manish Sisodia in the excise policy irregularities cases. The decision was made by justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan. The court imposed conditions such as surrendering his passport and not influencing witnesses.
Badal questioned why no action was taken against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, despite the same excise policy being implemented in Punjab.
Gopal Rai’s Response
Delhi Environment Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai stated that the Supreme Court’s verdict sends a message that there is a limit to dictatorship. He praised Sisodia for his contributions to the education sector, saying that he enabled government schools to produce better results than private schools.
Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024
Badal also commented on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, accusing the BJP of engaging in politics of polarization. She argued that the bill interferes with the religious affairs of minorities.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, introduced by Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, aims to address issues related to the powers of State Waqf Boards and the registration and survey of waqf properties. Opposition parties, including Congress and DMK, opposed the bill, calling for it to be sent to a standing committee for further scrutiny. Rijiju agreed to the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee for detailed discussion.
