Surat, located in Gujarat, India, has been recognized as the cleanest city in the country. To maintain this status, the Home Minister of Gujarat, Harsh Sanghavi, has been actively involved in cleanliness efforts. Recently, visuals showed Sanghavi picking up plastics from Dumas Beach alongside the public.

Speaking about the initiative, Sanghavi mentioned, “The initiative was started by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the help of several people. The project, which began under the Clean Surat initiative, has been organizing cleanliness drives every Saturday. The group collaborates with different organizations to clean various areas. Currently, they are focusing on the Tapi River and Dumas Beach.”

He also highlighted the involvement of the youth, saying, “We have been inspiring the youth to take the cleanliness drive forward and make the surroundings plastic-free. Today, even though it was raining, the youth came out and cleaned the beach. I joined them and worked closely to clean Dumas Beach.”

Sanghavi emphasized that the youth are sending a message to the public to keep the surroundings clean. He noted that people who previously disposed of plastic waste are now joining forces with the Municipality and Project Surat to clean the city. He also appealed to the public to help the government in these efforts.

The campaign, which started in Surat, will now be extended to all cities in Gujarat to ensure its success. Additionally, on March 2, Gujarat’s President CR Patil stated, “We have cleaned all areas in Navsari, covering 370 villages. Today, with the blessings of the Prime Minister, the youth will get employed in Navsari, which is a significant achievement for us.”
