Harry Brook Shines in England’s Win Over West Indies, Aims to Be His Own Batter
Edgbaston [UK], July 25: England’s batter Harry Brook has dismissed comparisons with former cricket great Kevin Pietersen. Brook emphasized that while it’s important to learn from other star players, he wants to be recognized for his own unique style.
Brook played a crucial role in England’s 241-run victory over the West Indies in the second Test at Nottingham, scoring 36 and 109, with the latter being his first century in the UK. His consistent performances have elevated him to a career-best third ranking in the ICC Test Rankings, surpassing notable players like Babar Azam, Daryl Mitchell, Steve Smith, and Rohit Sharma.

“I want to be my own batter. I want to be Harry Brook, not anybody else. Nowadays, you have to take different parts of other batters and put it into your game,” said Brook. He acknowledged the influence of players like Joe Root, AB de Villiers, and Kevin Pietersen on his game.
Brook’s average of 62.54 is the second-highest in Test history among players with a minimum of 20 Test innings, just behind the legendary Donald Bradman. Brook expressed hope to maintain his high average but acknowledged it could fluctuate.
“Test cricket and playing for England is my priority. I don’t want to think too far ahead,” said Brook. He is set to lead the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred but is unsure about future captaincy roles with England.
