Harmeet Dhillon Leads Sikh Prayer at Republican National Convention with Donald Trump
In Milwaukee, Indian American lawyer and former Republican Vice Chairperson, Harmeet Dhillon, performed the Ardas, a Sikh prayer, at the Republican National Convention. Former US President Donald Trump was present during the prayer.
Dhillon, who comes from a family of Sikh immigrants, expressed that the recent attack on Trump made everyone seek comfort and answers. She shared a prayer from her faith, which is practiced by over 25 million people worldwide. Dhillon covered her head as a mark of respect before reciting the Ardas.
She explained that the Ardas is recited before any new endeavor to give thanks to God and ask for protection and help to uphold values like humility, truth, courage, service, and justice for all. Dhillon called America a heaven on Earth and sought blessings for voters in the upcoming election.
Several delegates joined Dhillon’s prayer with folded hands, bowed heads, and closed eyes. She thanked God for Trump’s resilience and fearlessness, which she said inspired many. Dhillon concluded the prayer by asking for happiness, blessings, and good spirits for everyone.
