Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, has praised India’s increasing capabilities towards self-sufficiency in the energy sector. He shared updates on social media about the expansion of the refining capabilities of Barauni, Panipat, and Gujarat Refineries.

Refinery Expansions

The expansion plans for these refineries are progressing rapidly. The installations of heavy and complex equipment have become a regular feature in the country’s energy sector. Puri stated, “Pieces are falling in place to power India’s unprecedented journey towards achieving energy self-sufficiency under the leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji.”

Barauni Refinery

The capacity of the Barauni refinery is being increased from 6 million tonnes per year to 9 million tonnes, with an investment of Rs 14,800 crore.

Panipat Refinery

The Panipat refinery’s capacity is being expanded from 15 million tonnes per year to 25 million tonnes. Additionally, a 450,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant is being built. The project is expected to be completed by December 2025.

Gujarat Refinery

The Gujarat refinery’s capacity is being increased from 13.7 million tonnes per year to 18 million tonnes, with an investment of Rs 17,825 crore.

Indian Oil is currently executing 2814 projects with a cumulative investment of Rs 2,05,100 crore.
