Hafiz Naeemur Rehman Warns Government: Stop Paying Electricity Bills if Demands Not Met

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), has issued a stern warning to the Pakistani government. He stated that if their demands are not met, he might call on people across the nation to stop paying their electricity bills. This warning came during a women’s rally at Liaquat Bagh Chowk in Rawalpindi.

Urgent Demands

Rehman emphasized the need to eliminate contracts with independent power producers (IPPs) and address high electricity bills and inflation. He warned that protests would spread to Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta if immediate action is not taken.

Women’s Rights and Education

Rehman also highlighted the importance of women’s rights and education. He criticized the government for failing to provide education to over 26.2 million children and vowed to enact laws ensuring women’s rights.

Protests and Actions

Rehman announced plans for protests outside Governor Houses in Lahore, Peshawar, and Karachi. He demanded a forensic audit of IPPs and the termination of past agreements. He criticized the government’s extravagant spending and submission to International Monetary Fund (IMF) demands.

Rehman called on all political parties to join their struggle and focus on government actions instead of internal disputes. He stressed that the protest, now in its fourth day, showed the people’s determination and resilience.
