Hafiz Naeemur Rehman Criticizes Military Operations and Bureaucracy in Pakistan
On Sunday, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the chief of Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), spoke out against new military operations and criticized the bureaucracy for their failures. He emphasized that the country’s affairs should be managed according to the wishes of the people, as peace is essential for both politics and business.
Rehman highlighted the severe impact of the US ‘war on terror’ in Afghanistan on Pakistan, mentioning the loss of 100,000 lives and USD 200 billion. He blamed General Musharraf for surrendering to the US for dollars, which led to increased terrorism in Pakistan. He stated that military operations act as ‘factories’ producing more terrorists, resulting in unsafe frontiers and cities.
Addressing party President Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, Deputy Chief Dr. Ataur Rahman, and traders’ representatives, Rehman stressed the strong historical ties with Afghanistan and criticized the current state of peace in Pakistan. He also spoke against unfair taxation, urging that the feudal classes be taxed instead of the poor.
Rehman announced that the party would hold a sit-in protest on July 26 in Islamabad to address the electricity issues faced by the public.
