Gwalior Police Arrest Two for Cheating Elderly Doctor of Rs 38 Lakh
The Gwalior Crime Branch has arrested two individuals, Shahrukh and Laiq, for allegedly defrauding an elderly woman, who is a doctor, of Rs 38 lakh. The incident occurred in April when the woman received a call claiming her consignment contained illegal items and her bank accounts were linked to human trafficking.
The accused posed as enforcement officers and pressured the woman to transfer her money for a ‘fair investigation.’ Believing the claims, she transferred Rs 38 lakh to the accused’s account. When the money was not returned, she reported the fraud to the Crime Branch.
The police investigation revealed that the fraud amount was distributed across 18 different bank accounts. Shahrukh and Laiq were arrested in Bhopal on July 30, and further investigation is ongoing.
Details of the Incident
Superintendent of Police Dharmaveer Singh explained that the woman was initially contacted by someone claiming her consignment contained drugs and fake passports. The caller then connected her to a person posing as a Station House Officer (SHO) and later as a CBI officer. The woman was pressured to transfer her money to the accused’s account for a ‘fair investigation.’
After realizing she had been defrauded, the woman reported the incident to the Crime Branch, leading to the arrest of Shahrukh and Laiq. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover more details.
