Guman Singh: From Cricket Dreams to Kabaddi Star in Pro Kabaddi League
New Delhi, India – Guman Singh, from the small village of Sherpur in Haryana, has become one of the eight Crorepatis in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 11 player auction. The PKL, starting its 11th season on October 18, has significantly impacted the world of kabaddi.
Guman was signed by the Gujarat Giants for Rs 1.97 crore after an impressive performance in PKL season 10, where he scored 163 raid points in 18 matches for U Mumba. Interestingly, Guman initially had a passion for cricket but switched to kabaddi after his uncle noticed his talent.
At 15, Guman moved to the Narwal Kabaddi and Sports Academy in Rindhana, 150 kilometers from his village, to train. His dedication paid off when he joined the Jaipur Pink Panthers in PKL season 7 in 2019. Although he didn’t play much, the experience was invaluable.
In 2021, Guman joined the Patna Pirates, scoring 95 raid points in 19 matches under coach Ram Mehar Singh. This season was a turning point in his career. Now, at 25, Guman is the third-most expensive player in the season 11 auction and will be a key raider for the Gujarat Giants alongside Parteek Dahiya and Rakesh.
Guman is optimistic about the future and is motivated by his coach’s encouragement. He aims to achieve great things with his new team and believes in the importance of teamwork. Kabaddi has transformed Guman’s life, allowing him to build a house for his family and secure a job in the Railways.
“Pro Kabaddi League and Mashal Sports have changed our lives. Nobody knew us before, but now everything we have is because of the league,” Guman said emotionally.
