Gujarat’s New Semiconductor Plant: CM Bhupendra Patel Thanks PM Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving a new semiconductor manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat. This plant will be established by Keynes Semicon Pvt Ltd with an investment of Rs 3300 crore.

India Semiconductor Mission

The new plant is part of the India Semiconductor Mission, which aims to create a robust semiconductor ecosystem in India. The central government has allocated Rs 76,000 crores for this mission.

Gujarat as a Semiconductor Hub

Under PM Modi’s leadership, Gujarat is rapidly becoming a semiconductor hub. This new plant in Sanand will be the fourth semiconductor plant in the state, following Micron’s plant in 2023, Tata Electronics’ plant in Dholera in 2024, and CG Power’s plant in Sanand.

Employment and Investment

The establishment of these plants is expected to create numerous job opportunities and bring in significant investments. The cumulative investment for these projects is around Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with a production capacity of about 7 crore chips per day.

Global Semiconductor Production

Currently, about 70% of semiconductor manufacturing is concentrated in South Korea, Taiwan, China, the US, and Japan. India aims to become a global power in semiconductor production, similar to its achievements in technology, nuclear, and digital sectors.

Atmanirbhar and Make in India

As part of its Atmanirbhar and Make in India plan, the government has launched production incentive (PLI) schemes in various sectors, including electronics, to make Indian manufacturers globally competitive, attract investments, enhance exports, integrate India into the global supply chain, and reduce dependency on imports.
