Gujarat’s New Caracal Conservation Center Announced by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel

The Gujarat government is taking a significant step to protect the rare caracal, also known as Henotaro, by establishing a dedicated breeding and conservation center. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the allocation of Rs 10 crore for this project in Samtra village, located in the Chadwa Rakhal region of Kutch district.

Conservation Efforts in Kutch

The announcement was made during a function at the Shyamji Krishna Verma Memorial in Mandvi, Kutch. The Chief Minister’s Office stated that the area will be managed to support the long-term conservation and breeding of the caracal, which is extremely rare in India and found only in Kutch.

Rich Biodiversity in Chadwa Rakhal

Chadwa Rakhal is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including 28 mammals, 28 reptiles, and 242 exotic species such as leopards, crocodiles, chinkaras, and jackals. In total, 296 species of animal diversity can be found here, along with 243 species of botanical diversity. This makes the area a valuable site for wildlife and botanical research, as well as eco-tourism activities.

Land Allocation for Conservation

More than 4,000 hectares of land in the Chadwa Rakhal region was donated by the Kutch royal family to the state government. The revenue department has transferred this land to the forest department to enhance natural resources and support conservation efforts.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s announcement comes as a significant contribution during the ongoing Wildlife Week celebrations, highlighting the state’s commitment to preserving its natural heritage.
