Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel Reports 50 Cases of Chandipura Virus

Sabarkantha (Gujarat) [India], July 20: Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel has reported that 50 cases of Chandipura virus have been identified across the state, resulting in 16 deaths. In Himmatpur alone, 14 cases have been found, with seven patients currently admitted. Additionally, three cases have been reported from other states.

Minister Patel stated, “Symptoms of Chandipura virus were found in children, causing concern. Seven cases were sent to Pune for lab testing, and only one was confirmed as Chandipura virus. Other symptoms like swelling and diarrhea may be due to encephalitis.”

Important information about the virus has been disseminated throughout the state. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has reviewed the situation and held meetings with health officials to discuss control measures. These include spraying Malathion powder and ensuring immediate, intensive treatment for any fever cases.

Health Minister Patel also suggested preventive measures for rural areas, involving grassroots workers like Asha workers, Anganwadi workers, and nurses.
