Gujarat Health Minister Orders Inquiry into Deaths at Khyati Hospital
In Ahmedabad, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel has initiated an investigation into the deaths of two patients at Khyati Hospital. The incident, described as “very serious,” will be examined by the State Anti-Fraud Unit (SAFU) of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). Minister Patel emphasized that if medical negligence is found, strict action will be taken against the hospital and involved doctors.
PMJAY Deputy Director UB Gandhi expressed concern, stating that a team is gathering information on the medical procedures performed, including angiograms and angioplasties. The cardiology team will review records, and a report will be submitted to the commissioner for further action.
Nayan Patel, a local resident, shared his experience, highlighting a lack of transparency in medical procedures. He recounted how his mother underwent an angiography without proper explanation, and stents were placed without family notification. Concerns were raised about the deaths of two individuals who were reportedly healthy farmers.
Mitesh Patel, another resident, described a medical camp where villagers were taken to the hospital for procedures without family consent. He noted that Ayushman cards were used without informing families, and surgeries were prioritized for cash payments. A police complaint has been filed as they seek justice.
