Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate the Saputara Megh Malhar Parva 2024, organized by the Department of Tourism and Gujarat Tourism, to promote local employment and tourism at Saputara, the state’s only hill station, on Monday.

The month-long Megh Malhar Parva will feature programs showcasing the indigenous cultures of Dang and the ‘Rain Run Marathon.’ Tourists will enjoy 18 major sightseeing spots and the natural beauty of Saputara.

The festival, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been held annually since 2009. This year’s event will run from July 29 to August 28, 2024, starting with a colorful parade at the Boat House Ground, Saputara. The parade will include local musical instruments, fun characters, Dangi tribal dance, and various performances.

After the parade, a cultural program will be held near Saputara lake, followed by the Chief Minister flagging off the ‘Rain Run Marathon’ near Saputara Circle. Additional cultural programs will be organized on weekends and public holidays to familiarize tourists with the local culture and provide employment to local artists.

A special Dahi-Handi program will be held on Janmashtami day. Tourists can also enjoy attractions like the Eco Tourism Camp Site-Mahal, Aquarium, Eco Point, Gandharvapur Artist Village, Gira Falls, Governor’s Hill, Hygarh Fort, Madhmakhi Centre, Museums, Nageshwar Mahadev Temple, Purna Sanctuary, Rose Garden, Saputara Lake, Saputara Tribal Museum, Step Garden, Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, and Vansada National Park.

Activities like papercraft workshops, archery practice sessions, handicrafts, and photography exhibitions will also be available. Saputara’s pleasant atmosphere and natural beauty have made it a popular tourist destination, and the festival has boosted local employment and income.

Known as the Cherapunji of Gujarat, Saputara receives an average of 255 cm of monsoon rain annually, supporting lush natural forests. Situated at an altitude of 3,000 feet, Saputara has been developed as a planned hill station with facilities like a guesthouse, gardens, swimming pool, boat club, auditorium, ropeway, and museum.
