Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel Speeds Up Land Conversion Approvals

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has introduced measures to speed up the approval process for land conversion proposals. This change affects land used for cultivation, agriculture, and non-agricultural purposes. Previously, state-level approval was needed for land valuations over Rs 50 lakh. To reduce delays, CM Patel has decentralized authority, allowing quicker processing at district and state levels. This aligns with the “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance” principle, revising the delegation of authority for premium levies based on land valuation.

Streamlined Approval Process

According to a resolution by the Revenue Department dated March 17, 2017, the District Collector now has the authority to approve premium levies on land valuations up to Rs 5 crore. This change aims to expedite the application process for bona fide purchasers, promoting faster development.

Funding for Urban Development

On November 12, CM Bhupendra Patel approved a budget of Rs 253.94 crore for development projects in 14 towns and one metropolis. This funding is part of the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, launched in 2010 by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative addresses urbanization challenges and supports local self-governing institutions in improving civic amenities. The scheme has been extended until 2026-27, continuing to enhance urban infrastructure and facilities.
